Worms 2
Developer: Team 17
Worms in falsetto:
"Hello", "Revenge", "Ill get
you" and of course "FIRE", all those famous sounds are back. Yup the Worms
have developed a larger vocabulary, in various different tongues and their voices are just
as high pitched. For your team you can decide what speech series you want them to use,
just like before and also just like before your Worms will say something appropriate to
different avents, i.e. when a grenade lands, the nearest worm will shout "Take
Cover". So the sounds are just like before really, only slightly clearer and with a
couple more phrases, now onto the music. Now the music is also just like before with those
little humming types tunes that you never really notice. The music flows along with the
level, coming up sometimes and then disappearing just as quickly, but if you do listen to
them you will realise that they are good, well done tunes that fit the area.
Turn-based can be fun:
The game-play of Worms was undeniably its best point
offering all the options you needed, same goes for Worms 2. The game-play is the same as
the original with just more weapons to choose from along with the number of Worms being
increased from 4-8, which is good. The amount of players has been increased too, you can
play up to 6 teams at once or even a 16 player, one Worm each game. All the Normal link-up
options are catered for with LAN, Internet and serial connections available. As mentioned
earlier though the game-play is not as addictive as before, which is a shame really, but
then again I guess its impossible to have the same style of addictive style of play
as before. Otherwise the game is proof that you dont need heap loads of fancy
graphics or a couple of hundred key combinations or multiple route finding routines,
simple game-play can and always will be better. This is what makes it fun, its
quick, easy to grab, easy to go through with, not to easy to finish and proof that
everything doesnt need to be Real-time to be fun.
