Total Annihilation
Cavedog
Yes, I know its been out
a while:
The day when I purchased Command & Conquer changed my
gaming life, what this game started was the best selling genre in PC games today. What
with Starcraft, C&C, Red Alert, Warcraft 2 and Total Annihilation and to a lesser
extent, Dark Reign, all selling extremely well, better than most other games. So RTS games
sell more than other games, but why do they do so well, this is the only genre that I know
that some Quake addicts (who hate anything which isnt quake) actually play.
So what is it about then, well theres the strategy
part, the fact that you have to use the right thing for the right job (either that or pump
like mad). You also have more death and destruction in these games than any other, and you
also get one of the best multiplayer mode (apart from FPS games). Now I am a big RTS fan,
I have played all of them, some are crap, some dont even deserved to be mentioned,
others are good, and then there are the small amount of really good ones.
Well at the start everyone was saying about how good C&C
was, I agreed, while Warcraft 2 was good it wasnt quite as good, then Red Alert
came, which was nothing more than a Commercial release (for a few dollars more!!) it
introduced very little and was not original and it wasnt as good as C&C but it
sold by the millions. After Red Alert (and its awful add-ons) came Dark Reign
and this did fairly well but it was quickly stomped from upon high when a little known
game came along called Total Annihilation.
