Dark-Dune-Craft-Conquer-Annihilation!!:

Now I loved Dune2, I had it for the Amiga and I played it more than any other game on that machine, it was brilliant. I also loved Command and Conquer when that came out too, I played the thing pretty much every day for a whole year, there was only one other game that caught my attention that year, Warcraft 2. I Played Warcraft 2 alot aswell, Me and my friends had C&C and War2 tournaments, Everyone loves Real-time Strategy games. Well They did at least, now the only other catagory of game that has more clones is the First person shooter, there are thousands of Quake clones and there are thousands of C&C clones. Like most other people I also got a bit tired of the clones, but despite this I am a solid RTS fan and have bought almost all of them, some good, some terrible, some you aren’t sure of. Well Warcraft 2 has a Pseudo Cousin now in the shape of Starcraft, question is, is it good enough to throw away the clone moniker or even rename it. So far the only game since C&C to do it for me was Total Annihilation, so is Starcraft going to be better than that? Well we’ll find out.

Now Total took a step forward into the 3D realm and moved RTS games into a new era, so why is Starcraft 2D. Well contrary to popular belief 2D is not yucky, or old Fashioned, in-fact 2D is neater than 3D and it certainly runs faster, at least for now. The graphics in Starcraft are probably the most well drawn in a game of it’s type although some say a little too dark. The units are detailed with lots of frames of animation and thankfully the troops are not too small. The detail can be seen everywhere, all the effort that has gone into the graphics is fairly obvious and it pays off, the game is very pretty. The sides all look different enough, each having their own material which they seem to build all their stuff from. The explosions could have been better but they are effective enough. All in all though the game really reminds you of Diablo just with more detail and a wider view so if you know Diablo and Blizzard then you know what to expect.
