Requiem
Cyclone Studios / 3DO
The rest of the game is good, the levels
are good, and the enemies are excellent. However here comes the games biggest downfall, it
involves the way the game deals with enemy posistioning. Usually they are there before
hand, however later on this changes to them just appearing, you run along and kill a
couple near a door, you walk though the door but turn back quickly and go through it
again. Guess what happens know, yup, you see troopers falling from the ceiling into the
area you just cleared and they start attacking you. After you kill a few of them, more
fall from the ceiling, this is just stupid and it totally kills the atmosphere. If it had
have been done like in Blood 2 when they apppear through portals then thats one thing, but
just falling from the ceiling was a bad idea.
Another example of this is one stairwell
you have to walk up, you walk along, like say, a SWAT member would, your back to the wall
so you can see more clearly, nothing there, on the fourth time round, you are just about
to walk up when suddenly a trooper just appears, right were you were looking. Now it was
clear all the way until you actually touched the stair case the instant that happened,
boom, there he was. Now this is the games only really big downfall, the rest of it is
good, the stories good, the enemies are good, the weapons are good (if not very original)
and the levels are good. Multiplayer is also pretty good, mostly thanks to the magic. Oh
yes, the magic, I forgot to mention that, not only do you have 7 normal weapons, you also
has a host of spells to choose from (these are actually alot more useful than the weapons)
my current favourite being the Pentecost spell which involves you charging up a bolt and
then releasing it into your enemies, splatting them as it passes.
Is it worth money then?:
This game is very enjoyable, and it easily
takes your attention, however whether it can keep it is up to you. I personally enjoyed it
right up until the last boss (if anyone knows how long it takes to kill him, please tell
me) and even though the can can involve alot of dying thanks to the surprise reinforcement
troopers. This game is simply pure fun, its not revolutionary but its
entertaining, and thats what really counts, right?
