The Art of Pumping, Class 1:
Games they come and games they go, but some
hang around, C&C being one of them. I know people who STILL play it regularly, they
are the same people who didnt like Red Alert, they say that it had lost the tension
and tactical side of play. I myself hate Red Alert due to the sheer "nothing new
really" cash-in approach, and the slightly dodgy programming whereupon the game would
lag on anything. The Clones of these games have been many, some have been a brief
distraction some have almost made you say C&errr?.
Now the original KKND was at first a
C&C beater, at least thats what i thought. I later realised that it wasnt,
it was too slow and it lacked the thing that made C&C so good, cant figure out
what that is though! Another problem it had was bad levels, They were a little one sided
with the computer having a stupidly large advantage, thus making the game nigh on
impossible (still beat it though). I remember writing to Beam asking them to change some
things, make it faster, add boats, more units, better maps etc.
Lets see if they did what I asked or
not. Plot wise, the game is still the same with everyone trying to kill everyone else
after a Nuclear War with the inclusion of a new Robotic side called Series 9.
