Half-Life
Valve/Sierra
However it didnt last
long in single player, it didnt pack the rush of Doom 1 or 2, after this it took
until Jedi Knight came out to capture me again and while it was brilliant with excellent
levels it still didnt have the same feeling, even after the Add-on. However now we
have Half-Life, here to make up for Sins horrible curse of bugs. Now while
Multiplayer is always more fun overall than single, if a game has a bad single player mode
most of the people I know will ignore it multi too, With the exceptions of Quake and Quake
2 (which should have been like Arena in the first place, I.D. used all their single player
talent in Doom it seems?).

All I can see is that
its easier to get Single player wrong than multi player; multiplayer just has to
have smooth play over good levels with at least a few weapons that work. Single has to
have more than that, Good enemy A.I., Atmosphere, little elements to keep it alive, lots
of things to strive for; a decent plot helps this. Thankfully Valve saw that and are being
rewarded for their efforts, Looking Glass have also done the same thing with Thief. The
only thing which looks like beating both these games is Everquest only because it is
multiplayer at the same time as single, that is the ultimate combination, ask yourself how
they can go wrong?
