What is it about RTS games anyway??:
This is a very relevant question,
especially to me, what exactly is the pull to a game like this. If you really think about
it, there isnt alot to it, you just click a couple of times on a building, select a
load of vehicles and click attack a couple of times. Whatever way you look at it though
there is no denying how popular they are, only being over shadowed by
FPSs (although
these games sell more copies, just look at Starcraft, C&C, Red Alert, Warcraft 2,
etc.) Anyway, this game is another one; its very sought after by the gaming
community and yes, its good. The gameplay in this game is better than all the other
Westwood jobs, and yet its still similar to the first game, now theres a
strange thing. When youve played this, and you start thinking about Dune 2, you
Realise something quite shocking. The gameplay in either Dune is better than C&C, its
better thought out, more strategic, Better matched sides, and actually more original, even
now. In fact if you really think about it, C&C seems like a cut down version of this,
the only difference was, it was newer and flashier and had that all important multiplayer
function. Well Dune has
it all of that now, the single player mode is good, although a little repetitive, but
its the multiplayer mode, as ever that makes this so interesting. Ever since I
played the first game Ive wanted to go against a friend at this, to finally prove
that the Ordos are better than the Harkonnen, and now I can. And seeing as this is the Red
Alert engine after all, all the same functions are there and seeing that over half the
world probably has that game, I dont need to explain anything, as its the
same. All in all, a damn good, enjoyable game, but again not without problems. It does
feel a bit slow and the towers do feel useless, in fact most of the weapons feel useless,
at least at first, you soon get used to them though.
