Commandos – Behind Enemy Lines
Eidos Interactive

There is something about the Spanish:
To say that the graphics in this game are nice is a bit of an understatement. Ok just let me get this out of the way first before I explain the title, this game is not 3D accelerated ok, if they had have done it the game would have lost all it’s detail. Right then, about the title, how many of you have seen a picture of Blade, or the Screamer series of games, what do they have in common, exactly, they all look extremely nice. The Spanish seem to be excruciatingly attentive to graphical detail, which is a very good thing as I think you’ll agree. All the in-game graphics are rendered in 3D (3D Studio Max I think) and they are all highly detailed (you can even see minuet details such as keyholes and chipped paint on a window frame).

This gives the game an immensely realistic look, however a good old catch comes in here, due to it being rendered, you can’t scroll, meaning you have places where you can’t see your character properly. Also it means that the levels and surroundings look very static, the only real moving thing is the water which uses an effect alot like Quakes water effect. Also rendered games are famous for having crap collision detection and this is no different, you often find yourself dying because a shadow (yes a shadow) got in your way a prevented you from running away in time, therefor, you die. At least you can say it looks nice though!
