Microprose has licensed the same cutting-edge engine for its own series of action games, including one that offers a new perspective on the X-COM series. X-COM Alliance, the fifth game in the popular series, combines fast, alien blasting action with in-depth strategy to create a game with cross-over appeal for fans of multiple genres. The story opens in the year 2026, when X-COM
returns to the ruins of an alien invasion base on Mars. The goal is to search for
technology overlooked at the end of the first war fought in X-COM UFO Defense (released as
UFO Enemy Unknown in Europe). As X-COM reaches orbit around the planet, an abandoned
dimension gate transports them 60 light years into the middle of a war between X-COM's
original foes and a race called the Ascidians. In an attempt to return home, X-COM joins
with the Ascidians to defeat the alien threat. The explosive real-time battles take place
on numerous 3D worlds in a 15-mission fight to annihilate the enemy. Players will command
the action from the first-person view of up to four troopers in the X-COM strike team. On
board their ship, players will control the resources scavenged from the alien craft during
the missions, handpicking squads and arming them with the latest alien and human
technology. With its clever emphasis on strategy and troop management, and its stunning
first-person graphics and action, X-COM Alliance will deliver one of the most unique,
exhilarating, and addictive gameplay experiences of the year. |
