Capabilities

FireAlarm is user friendly. It is highly configurable. One can easily set the range of the sensors and you can also set the temperature at which the alarm will go off. The alarm itself is configurable. It emits an audible alarm, which is simply a wave file. The wave file itself can be changed so that it can make any sound you would like. It also has the capability, if you have a modem, to send a page to any alpha-numeric pager, letting you know if an alarm has been set even when you are not home. If the temperature reaches a user-defined limit, a level two alarm goes off. The user can set the option to automatically shut down the system when the level two alarm is reached.

Additional features include a graphical history, which will graph the temperature fluctuations. You can set the labels. The default labels for the sensors are A and B. You can change these to read "processor" or "hard drive", or wherever the sensor happens to be.

If you have compatible hardware, you can keep track of hardware operation with FireAlarm. For example, if your CPU fan has a failure notification output, you can plug the FireAlarm circuit sensor into it. FireAlarm sends an electric current through it. If the current is broken, this indicates fan failure and the FireAlarm notifies you. This can be a real chip-saver.
