Terasound 64 PCI, 64 Voice, DirectSound 5.0

The Next Generation PC Sound Standard!

  • 64 voice high quality wavetable sound
  • 3D audio enhancement
  • PC'97 Compliant
  • Microsoft DirectSound 5.0 acceleration
  • DOS games compatibility

The TeraSound 64 PCI is based on the PCI bus and provides improved audio performance and quality while retaining DOS compatibility. The TeraSound 64 PCI is PC’97 compliant and have incorporated the latest AC97 codec.

Why PCI? The obvious advantage is system performance. PCI has bandwidth of 133 MB/second which is much larger that the 7 MB/second on ISA bus. This eliminates the ISA system bottleneck and enables CPU resources to be utilized for other activities, including the support for graphics and DVD audio/video decoding.

The TeraSound 64 PCI supports the features enabled by Microsoft DirectSound 5.0 and DirectSound3D. The TeraSound 64 PCI also utilize the high bandwidth PCI bus to store MIDI sound samples in a PC’s system RAM. The DownLoadable Sounds (DLS) saves the cost of ROM and allows software developers to determine precisely how their games/titles will sound on every system that utilizes downloadable sound fonts. DownLoadable Sounds (DLS) is from MIDI Manufacturers Association (MMA).
