AOpen AX6F, ATX,
Pentium II, 440FX Intel Pentium II 82440FX PCIset Mainboard As expected by our friends worldwide, AOpen announced the first Pentium II (Klamath) ATX motherboard AX6F. It integrates the Intel 440FX chipset, an Ultra I/O controller, two USB ports and a PCI bus master IDE controller to enhance system performance. The system memory can be up to a maximum of 512MB with ECC (Error Check and Correction) support. There is no second level cache onboard, since the cache is on the Pentium II CPU card (connector SLOT1). High Efficient Synchronous Switching Power Regulator The high performance but high heat dissipation CPUs have increased a trend to implement switching regulator onboard, and save more power as possible as we can. Most of the current switching designs are Asynchronous mode, which from the technical point of view, still consumes very high power as well as heat. AOpen AX6F implements high efficient Synchronous switching design that the temperature of MOS FET (or Schottky diode) is less than 36 degree C compared with 57 degree of Asynchronous design. CPU Thermal Protection Circuit The higher speed of CPU, the more heat dissipation need to be taking into consideration. If user does not use correct fan for the CPU cooling, it is highly possible the CPU can over heat and causing system unstable. AOpen AX6F has special thermal detection circuit under the CPU heatsink, and slows down the CPU speed as well as warning either through speaker or application software when temperature is high than a predefined value. USB Hot Plug-in The AX6F comes with two USB (Universal Serial Bus) ports for advanced USB peripheral connections. What's more, AOpen adds in two pico fuses and 1000 uf E.L. Capacitors to avoid board damage or system down during USB "Hot Plug". This added feature translates into better system reliability and lower service cost for system integrators or distributors.
