ATI Rage Fury 8MB (Xpert 99)
ATI
Installation:
The first thing I did was to download the newest drivers from ATIs homepage. After
removing my old I740 card from the AGP slot and replacing it with the Rage Fury 8MB card I
restarted my computer. When windows started it found new hardware and asked for the
drivers. Because the drivers I downloaded came with an setup file i pressed cancel and
then ran the setup file instead. And after a second reboot the card was installed.
I then started Quake 2 to do some benchmarking and it worked
without any need of fiddeling around in the options and so on. But a strange thing
happened when I tried running 3Dmark 99, after the second test the program crashed with an
error message saying something like "error in ddhelp.exe". As you all might know
ddhelp.exe is a directx component. So therefore I tried reinstalling directx6.1 a couple
of times but the error remained. When I tested the card in another computer 3Dmark 99 ran
just fine. I figure it might have something to do with some drivers from my old card that
hasn't been fully removed. But otherwise all other directx applications and games seemed
to work fine.
