ATI Rage Fury 8MB (Xpert 99)
ATI
Introduction:
This board from ATI is based on the Rage 128 Chipset. I think they had the OEM
market in mind when they made it because it's pretty cheap for the performance you get.
The Rage 128 chipset is supposed to be a really good performer in 32-bit color. As you can
see later on in this review that doesn't really apply to this card, even if it's pretty
good in 32-bit. The 3D support for this card is good, it has a full OpenGL ICD and it
supports Microsofts D3D.
ATI has for some reason changed the names of all Rage 128
based boards, so if you don't recognise the name Rage Fury 8MB then maybe the name Xpert
99 might ring some bells. I have no idea why they changed the names of the boards,
probably because the Rage 128 chipset is pretty famous and they think that it might sell
better if it's called something with Rage 128.

The card also have hardware mpeg accelleration which is
becoming a standard on newer boards. Thats a pretty good thing because then first of all
you save money because you don't have to buy a seperate hardware mpeg accelleration card
and second you save expansion slots on your motherboard.
The card is no super performer but it definitely
performs good enough to run all my favourite games in at least 800*600 resolution. Now
let's get on with the tests.
