3Dfx Voodoo Graphics 

The Voodoo Graphics chipset truly is an amazing first offering from 3Dfx and has fared extremely well. Not only has it stood the test of time against other chip manufacturers, it still keeps up with every title out there. 3Dfx has gathered a lot of support from software developers worldwide and has one of the best public relations department in the business. They are the market leader, and show no signs of slowing down.

The chipset consist of two seperate chips (hence chipset), the TexelFX and the PixelFX. One handles the texturing, mipmapping and fitering and the other the pixel rendering such as fog and transparencies. On consumer level boards the cards feature one of each processor while on high-end Obsidian boards (distributed by Quantum 3D) they use up to 2 PixelFX and four TexelFX chips on each card thus giving a heluva lot better performance.

The Voodoo graphics boards can also be equiped with more than the standard 4Mb ram (2Mb framebuffer and 2Mb texture), for example the biggest (and most expensive) Obsidian class board has a massive 20Mb (4Mb for framebuffer and 2 x 8Mb for textures), even in cosumer level hardware we can find additional texture and / or framebuffer memory (Canopus 3D etc.).
