3Dfx Voodoo Graphics
The Voodoo Graphics chipset has been
available from september 1996 and can be found on a variety of boards, including the likes
of Diamond Monster 3D, Orchid Righteous 3D, RV Flash 3D, Skywell Magic-3D and Canopus Pure
3D.
These cards use a pass-thru cable solution
where you hook up your 2D board to the Voodoo Graphics accelerator and then hook up the
Voodoo with your monitor. When a program makes a call to the Voodoo board it overrides the
signal from the 2D card and then displays it's own full-screen image.
One of the limitations of the Voodoo
Graphics is that it can't render in a window hence it's useless for 3D applcations like 3D
studio, Lightwave and AutoCAD that requires a simultanious 2D display.
