The most common words in the memory world.
In the computers memory is the programs
that you temporary use stored and the information that the computer works with is also
stored here. Memory is measured in megabyte and almost every computer that is sold today
is delivered with 32 megabyte or more.
One megabyte is the same thing as 1024
kilobyte and one kilobyte is the same thing as 1024 byte. One byte is what the uses to
store one sign, a letter or a number. One byte consists of eight bits and every bit can be
either 0 or 1.
The memory is a small Silicontray that is
placed in a black capsule. To make the memory easier to handle so are there several of
these capsules placed on small circuit boards. There are several types of circuit boards
but in the most common one today is called Dimm which stands for Dual Inline Memory
Module. If we go back a few years there was one type of cards that were called Simm,
Single Inline Memory Module.
One practical difference between the two
types is that Simm delivers 32 bits at the time and Dimm delivers twice of that. If you
are going to use Simm in your computer you need an even set of memory in your computer:
two, four, six and so on. With Dimm memory dont you have that limitation.
