3Dfx Voodoo2
The V2 has several possible memory
configurations ranging from 6 to 12Mb divided in any of the following ways:
- 2Mb framebuffer & 2Mb texturememory
per TMU = 6Mb
- 4Mb framebuffer & 2Mb texturememory per TMU = 8Mb
- 4Mb framebuffer & 4Mb texturememory per TMU = 12Mb
To even further increase performance you
have the possibility to hook up two V2's in SLI (ScanLine Interleave) for double fillrate
and higher resolution support. For SLI to be possible you'll need two free PCI slots and
two V2's from the same manufacturer with the same amount of memory.
While the V2 is a huge step forward
performance wise I am a little disappointed with the lack of new features. No Anisotropic
filtering or real anti-aliasing. Even the bump-mapping feature which 3Dfx seems to raise
to the skies is fake. It requires a second rendering pass and isn't really a hardware
feature.
